The World Scout Jamboree will be a gathering of Scouts from around the world for 11 days from 27 July to 7 August 2011.
The theme of the 22nd World Scout Jamboree in 2011 is "Simply Scouting" - which has 3 components
Meetings. To encourage meetings between different cultures, religions, Countries, etc
Nature. Using the natural environment as a learning tool
Solidarity. Helping the young people to see that we share a common responsibility for our World
Maidenhead and District Scouts have seven young members, who will be part of thirty-six young people and four leaders from all over Berkshire, as members of one of the Berkshire Unit
The World Jamboree is going to be held in Kristianstad, Sweden. There will be around 32,000 young people and adults at the World Scout Jamboree, they will come from over 200 countries for 12 days.
The Jamboree experience will be made up of a couple of days where all the Units from the Jamboree will get together to party before they arrive at the Jamboree itself. At the Jamboree site there will be an Opening Ceremony, plus loads of different activities for 7 or 8 days. The activities are a real mix of physical, social and educational, all will be fun! The Unit will also get the chance to go off site and see a bit of Sweden, meeting local Scouts to find out what their way of Scouting is like. After the Closing Ceremony they will spend two or three nights with a family on home hospitality. They will go with other people the Unit and experience living with a family in a different country.
The Jamboree experience will consist of:
- A 2-3 night pre event experience in Copenhagen
- 11 nights at the Jamboree site in Sweden
- 2-3 nights home hospitality in another Country (possible be Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland and Finland)
These young people will camp, live and work alongside each other. They will come from a variety of different cultures, backgrounds, and religions. Together they will celebrate what unites them, and learn what they can do together to help build a better world.
