Scouting in Maidenhead

Maidenhead is the largest District in the Royal County of Berkshire with 11 Scout Groups and 1062 members (as at Jan 2011).   Most Groups have Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Scouts.  The District also has seven Explorer Scouts Units and the Scout Active Support .  The Active Support members are usually ex-Scouters or retired Scouters who wish to continue their association with Scouting.

The District covers Bray, Holyport, Furze Platt, Pinkneys Green, Cox Green, central Maidenhead, Woodlands Park, White Waltham, Hurley and Cookham.   Many of the Groups use the river and camping facilities at Longridge during the year.


The Scout Movement

Scouting is a worldwide voluntary movement for young people.   The Scout Movement was founded in 1907 by Lord Robert Baden-Powell.   In the United Kingdom, the youth membership boys & girls, aged between six and eighteen years is over half a million, supported by 120,000 adults.   The Movement now has over 26 million members worldwide,    Scouting in over 200 countries.   With its sister movement, Girlguiding UK,    Scouting represents the largest youth organisation in the World.

All adults in Scouting work to fulfill the Aim of the Association.

Young People First
Yellow Card is given to all leaders.
It consists of a Code of Behaviour for adults involved in Scouting.   Click Here for more details.

Scouting is run by people who freely give up their time to organise weekly activities for young people.   In addition to Leaders, there are Skills Instructors, Helpers, Administrators, Committee Members, Fundraisers and so on.   All adults in the movement undergo training depending on their role in the Movement.
